Cold Creek Conservation Area Hike / X-Country Ski (NW of Kleinburg)
February 18/17 (Saturday) HIKE: 9:30 am (1.5-2 hrs), XC SKI 11:30 (1 – 1.5 hrs)
Thankfully, last week’s snow has covered up the underlying ice, and the trails have reopened. As of yesterday, there was a good base of snow for hiking. Hopefully, the base will stay until tomorrow (although it’s expected to be 11˚ C on Saturday, It will only be 2˚ C at 9am). Icers/crampons are still recommended.
For much of the trail, the snow is pretty packed down, so not ideal for XC Skiing. However, there are some sections where there is a good base, and Cold Creek staff have set tracks.
Rather than splitting into two groups, we’ll do the hike at 9:30, and will be able to determine whether there will be enough of a base for XC Skiing. If there is, we will start the ski at 11:30 am.
