Please join us for the annual HVHTA spring bird hike.

• two starting times:  7:45 am for “early birders” and 9:30 am for “late risers”
• refreshments:  in between hikes, at around 9 am, coffee & treats at Joanne’s home

We will take a slow walk through the forest, along the East Humber, and into the main section of Boyd Conservation Area.

Please wear layers of light clothing with long sleeves and long pants for the mosquitos, preferably in muted colours. Waterproof footwear is recommended—grass is always wet in the morning.

If you have bug repellent, please check with leader before spraying it on – she is allergic to many brands, but will bring some of the stuff she can tolerate for others to use.

If you have binoculars, bring them along as well; Joanne will bring a bird book.

No dogs please.

DIRECTIONS:

Start and finish at 4685 Rutherford Road in Woodbridge (south side of Rutherford Road between the East Humber River and Pine Valley Drive).

If possible, approach from the west, as it is a very difficult left turn with no left turn lane (you can go past the driveway and turn around at the lights at the top of the hill if you are approaching from the east).

Coming down the driveway (going into the woods) pass the first house on your right, and take the right fork to Joanne’s house.

Join us for our first end to end hike of the year on the Caledon section of the Humber Valley Heritage Trail, starting at the north end.  Spring appears poised to arrive sooner  than usual this year,  so it will be interesting to see what effect this will have on our trailside natural environment.  Perhaps there will be more small birds in the woods, lured back early to Canada by warmer  weather.  Be prepared for some mud on lowland trail sections, and raingear is always advisable this time of year.

Built and maintained by HVHTA Bolton Chapter,  our  trail is already well known as one of the best hiking opportunities in the GTA.

For those hikers who prefer a shorter outing, a vehicle will be shuttled to Castlederg Road approx. 8 km along the trail to provide a halfway exit point.

Take a lunch if you are planning to hike from end to end. Well-behaved dogs are most welcome.

DIRECTIONS:
We will meet at Dick’s Dam Park in downtown Bolton, and carpool to the starting point.

To find Dick’s Dam:  from Queen Street /Hwy 50 and King Street (main intersection in older part of Bolton), go north on Queen Street to Hickman Street (after crossing Humber River bridge). Go west on Hickman a short distance to Glasgow Road and make a right turn. Follow Glasgow Road north to Dick’s Dam Park, on your left  just before the narrow bridge.
