WINTER WALK ON OAK RIDGES MORAINE (S of Pottageville)
9:30 am, Saturday, January 12 (1.5-2 hrs)
The exact trail route and distance will be determined on the day depending on the weather and trail conditions:
Option 1: a 4 km hike on an undulating trail Option 2: walking 9 km on an easier trail
This walk will follow a lovely section of the Oak Ridges Trail a little south of Pottageville. We will be exploring part of a wooded area known as the Happy Valley Forest, in the heart of Ontario’s Greenbelt. HVF straddles the Oak Ridges Moraine, an area of steeply rolling hills and valleys, and serves as habitat for a variety of rare plants and animals…including bird species that can successfully nest only deep in a forest’s interior.
Dress for the weather, in layers that can be removed one at a time as hikers warm up (not a parka).
Bring a bottle of water, or maybe a thermos with a hot drink.
In case we do the 9 km hike, you may also like to bring a light snack (granola bar/apple).
Heather Stewart is an HVHTA board member who lives in Schomberg and is out hiking on local trails every weekend
