Happy Valley Spring Hike – Trilliums, Trails & Tall Trees

10 km through the heart of spring on the Oak Ridges Moraine

📅 Date: Saturday, May 10, 2025
🕤 Time: 9:30 AM start
📍 Meeting Point: End of 7th Concession (just east of Pottageville)
🚶 Distance: Approx. 10 km (may be extended based on group interest)
Duration: 2.5 – 3 hours
🥾 Difficulty: Moderate – rolling terrain with several hills
🌼 Trail Conditions: Mixed forest trail, well marked, potentially muddy

Join us for a walk through the ever-stirring Happy Valley Forest, where May brings a vibrant display of spring wildflowers. If we’re lucky, carpets of trilliums will line the trail and the first sounds of warblers will echo through the trees. This is one of the best times of year to witness the forest coming back to life after winter.

Our 10 km loop includes varied terrain with some hills, making for a moderately challenging but deeply rewarding morning in nature. We’ll stop for a short break midway, so bring a snack and water. No lunch on the trail—but we invite you to join us afterward for an optional pub stop at Delaney’s in Schomberg.

What to Bring:

✔️ Sturdy hiking boots
✔️ Water and a snack
✔️ Long pants and tick spray for around the ankles
✔️ Dress in layers—spring weather can shift quickly
