Birders from across Ontario flock to Happy Valley Forest in May—and for good reason. This old-growth forest, perched on the Oak Ridges Moraine, is a magnet for spring migrants and nesting songbirds. Join local birder and HVHTA hike leader Geoff Simpson for a gentle early morning walk through some of the forest’s most bird-rich sections.

With luck, we’ll see or hear species you won’t easily find elsewhere in Ontario. As the forest fills with birdsong, we’ll also take time to appreciate blooming wildflowers, lush ferns, and towering century-old trees.

What to Bring:

✔️ Binoculars
✔️ Water
✔️ Camera (optional)
✔️ Hiking shoes or walking boots

Geoff Simpson is an experienced hiker and birder and long-time HVHTA board member.
