A twilight walk during the Perseid Meteor Shower
📅 Date: Saturday, August 23, 2025
🕘 Time: 9:00 PM
📍 Location: Caledon Rail Trail, starting from Humber Station Road (directions provided upon registration)
🚶 Distance: 2–4 km
⏳ Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
🥾 Difficulty: Easy – wide, flat trail suitable for all levels
When was the last time you truly looked up at the night sky? Away from the glow of city lights, the Caledon Rail Trail offers a rare chance to walk beneath a sky filled with stars, planets, and—if we’re lucky—shooting stars from the Perseid Meteor Shower.
We’ll begin our hike just after sunset and slowly head east along the trail, pausing now and then to admire the growing number of celestial objects overhead. Whether you’re well-versed in constellations or just curious about the night sky, this gentle walk is a wonderful way to reconnect with the rhythms of nature.
As darkness settles in, we’ll learn how to find the North Star, look for major constellations, and maybe even catch a glimpse of a meteor or two. After about an hour, we’ll turn around and return the way we came.
What to Bring:
✔️ Flashlight or headlamp (to be used only when necessary)
✔️ Binoculars (optional)
✔️ Light jacket or sweater – nights can be cool
✔️ Water bottle or thermos with tea
🚫 No dogs please – this is a quiet, low-light hike
